Bursting Book Bubbles

While reading "The Long Walk" a few years ago, the story didn't ring true to me, so I decided to do some research. Apparently a lot of the story is a fabrication and the motivation was the ghost writer's agenda to prove Yeti stories. Here's one of the links to an investigation done by the BBC:

http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/prisoners-war/8712-bbc-another-long-walk-story.html

Just thought I'd give you something to think about while you read. To me it isn't much different than reading James Frey "Million Pieces," or whatever that made-up Oprah travesty was. Some people read it and are unmoved because it is false, others choose to read it as fiction.

Karen - any guesses what the rolling pin goes to?

Coco entertained us with her dress up.

Steph taking a guess.

Socialism Social for Dec. Book Group

In honor (or disbelief) of the inevitable social and culture changes the Obama Lama has promised to make, wouldn't it be nice to have a socialism social? In other words, everyone bring an appetizer or treat to share. In this way we can stuff ourselves with sweet treats and good eats just like the good little capitalists we are. Shall we have a vote.

Hey - I finally did it!

Tifani, I'm so impressed with the site - very cool. I love how you put all the pictures of the books on it.

Thank you to all of you who signed up to donate an item for the Garrulous Girls Book Basket to benefit the Olivecrest homes and services for abused children in our area. I need to put the basket together in the next couple of days - so if you still have an item you'd like to include in the basket please call me and I will come by and pick it up.

I know all of you are LOVING Ender's Game....

Marcie

hey, I finally managed this tech stuff and got it, of all things I had to go back to work...my daughter, Breanna, got a much better offer from Spokane ENT and will be leaving at the end of the month, so I have been trying to cram the new program at the office and all into this old head!! Oh well, I am sure I will still have time to read a few books, love the blog, think it will be great fun, Karen

Friday, October 24, 2008

Hi girls,
Tifani -- I love the blog. Thank you for all your hard work! We are going to have fun -- I do want a list of all the books we've read from the beginning (Jan). I have been really good this year and read most of the books but . . . it helps to have a little more time and less stress these days.
